NAMA Conference Rhode Island, 2016
It is well known that Vata acts as a subtle energy that controls cellular function. The molecule Nitric Oxide (NO) is an intra/extracellular signaling gas, a powerful vasodilator with a very short half-life, actively produced by many cells. It is been investigated in numerous pathological processes, from neurocognitive disorders, to pain and stress, to DNA/RNA dysregulation. We will demonstrate how NO is involved in normal respiratory processes as well as in pranayama, exploring correlations with other body systems (other dhatus and srotas).
Presentation:

In Ayurveda, the human body is a biological mélange of the five elements: Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. Prana, the life force, manifests as different Vata organisations in the body and represents the combination of Ether and Air. We are going to analyse the specific structural locations of these five subtypes of Vata at a physiological, biochemical and anatomical level and discuss the practical and therapeutic values in addressing imbalances of Vata dosha at different levels of individuals and their practices.

Diagnosis, Spirit & Healing ~ The Common Threads & The Road Ahead
A Salon with Ayurvedic, Chinese & Tibetan Healers
Join us for an evening that explores the essence of traditional medicine - diagnosis, spirit and healing. We have brought together three incredible, and highly skilled healers from some of the oldest medical systems existing today - Ayurveda, Chinese, Tibetan Medicine. This evening will offer a fascinating discussion and comparison of how these medicines have addressed healing in the past and how they are essential in maintaining health and balance in modern society. We will explore ways to maintain the spiritual essence of healing, and the diagnostic processes that we are each able to apply to our own lives in understanding our conditions and illness.
